Lynn Padgett

During a thirty-year career as a writer, editor and designer for books, magazines and exhibits, I enjoyed the challenge of balancing words with images to create clear messages and strong visuals. After retirement, I began to take classes and workshops in drawing and painting. Instructors have included Luanna Winner (Raleigh, pastel and portraiture) and Patricia Cole-Ferullo (Tryon, water media and abstract). After moving to western North Carolina in 2001, I became a member of the Rutherford County Visual Artists Guild, Tryon Painters and Sculptors, and the Art League of Henderson County. I have recently moved to Pennsylvania.

Why Art and Design?

I continue to explore the ways that painting and collage evoke experience without the constraint of a linear arrangement of words. The “story” told by a painting is perceived both all at once and detail by detail. I enjoy those moments of enchantment when a vision makes it out of my head and heart and comes through my hands into a painting that invites consideration of a subject in an unexpected way.  The rhythms of line and playful arrangement of shapes and colors almost always surprise me with something unexpected and unintended.

In other media, I relax with pen and ink drawings and with charcoal and pastel portraits that require an attention to detail that I find refreshing. I enjoy the challenge of creating clear, bold designs for books, posters and exhibits. For information about purchasing artwork or to discuss a design project, email me at lpadgettart@gmail.com.
